Hello, and welcome to my
pottery web site. I am Teresa Wooden, and I
created the works you are about to view.
About twelve years ago
I took my first pottery class at a community craft
center, where I struggled to learn the very basics and
ultimately failed and gave up. A few years later I felt
moved to give it one more try. This time I bought
my own wheel, a hundred pounds of clay, and was lucky
enough to work with some talented potters and
instructors who helped me to develop the skills I needed. I also attended many seminars and
workshops, picking up tips and tricks along the way that
gave me encouragement and inspiration.

Determination paid off,
and one day the clay began to cooperate with me (and I
with it). A whole world of possibilities suddenly
opened before me, and I haven't looked back since. I
have been blessed in the adventure and in the way people
receive my work. I find it both exciting and
rewarding, and count myself lucky to be able to pursue
it full time. A teacher by training, I now enjoy
helping others to find a creative outlet for the stress
of daily life by "playing in the mud" and making
beautiful pottery with their own hands.
I am fascinated by botanicals,
florals, and wildlife, and my work reflects that interest.
Nearly all my work has a natural theme, from carved and
slip-trailed vines to sculpted birds and frogs. My forms
are usually altered in some way to suggest movement and grace.
I am now creating items for the garden as well as the home,
and enjoy bringing a sense of playfulness to my bird feeders
and garden totems.
It is very gratifying to see the look of enjoyment when someone holds one
of my pieces, or is drawn to an item and wants to make it
their own. As an artist, evoking a human response to
what I have created is the ultimate goal, and to have someone
choose a piece to enhance their daily life is the
greatest compliment.
Most of all I make
pots because it truly makes me happy... I am always thinking of new forms and techniques that I want to
try, and I can't wait to get out to the studio to make
something beautiful. I didn't find my gift for pottery
until my forties... but I can't imagine my life if I had never
found it at all. What about you... what is your hidden
passion? It is not too late... you are not too old...
you don't have to be an expert. Just do it for your own joy. The rest
will fall into place.
Enjoy your stroll through my web site, and
please feel free to contact me if you see something you like.
